Coach Bob Adams – Head Coach Varsity
Coach Bob Adams enters his13th year as the Head Varsity Coach of the Coon Rapids wrestling program. In
1979 he graduated from Coon Rapids High School with a 4th and 5th place finish at the state high school
tournament. After high school Adams worked for 15 years at the Metropolitan Transit Commission while
he continued his education and wrestling career at Augsburg College. 1983 was an amazing year when
Coach Adams won the National Championship, was named the Honor Athlete of the Year, and graduated
with a B.A. degree in Sociology. Adams then helped coach the Augsburg Auggies over the next 10 years
and was part of the school’s very first National Team Championship. After marrying his wife Cathy and
the birth of his two sons, Ryan and Jason, he attended the University of St. Thomas where he earned a
Masters degree in Education. Coach Adams is now in his 13th year of teaching. He had the pleasure of
being one of the first recipients of the Anoka-Hennepin District #11 TOP Award for excellence in teaching. To highlight his lifetime achievement in the sport of wrestling, in 2005 Coach Adams had the honor of being inducted into the Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Adam Thronson – Assistant Coach Varsity
Coach Adam Thronson was born in 1975 to parents Gary and Glenda Thronson. He graduated from
Hayfield High School in 1994 and graduated from Augsburg College in 1999. Not only was Coach
Thronson an Academic All-State wrestler at Hayfi eld with a 3.8 GPA, he also held a career 132 wins, 4 time
All-Conference, 6 year letter winner, member of the state runner up team in 1993, Captain his senior year, 3
year letter winner in football, as well as a 3 year letter winner in baseball. He was a 2 time Academic All-
American at Augsburg, with 72 career wins, the Most Improved wrestler his sophomore year, and received
the Auggie Award his senior year. Coach Thronson has coached the Minnesota Storm Cadet Greco team
in Fargo and Colorado from 2000-2003. Adam has been the coach of Coon Rapids Mat Bandits Freestyle/
Greco teams since 1995. He has ten years teaching experience under his belt, 1 year at Rosemount High
School and 7 years at Coon Rapids. In 2005 Adam received the Anoka-Hennepin District 11 TOP Award for excellence in teaching. He lives in Coon Rapids with his wife Becky, sons Mitchell and Dean, and their dog Sadie.
Bob Montague – Head Coach Junior Varsity
Coach Bob Montague is no stranger to the sport of wrestling, since he enters his 31th year coaching high
school wrestling, with eighteen of those years at Coon Rapids helping the Cardinals reach new heights.
Coach Montague was a State Runner-up in 1972 and wrestled on a Cultural Exchange team in Europe and
for Team Minnesota against the Swedish and Finnish National teams in 1974. Montague wrestled at Anoka
Ramsey and also for the United States Army in 1975. Coach Montague competed on the “All Army Team”
in 1976 and 1977. He currently is employed at Minnetonka High School and also coaches golf and football
where he helped the football team win the state title in 2005 and the golf team win the state title in 2006.
He and his wife Joan and son Jake live in Coon Rapids.
Noah Glenn – Head 9th grade Coach
Noah begins his 3rd year coaching with the high school. He is a 2000 graduate of Coon Rapids High and
wrestled for former Head Coach Bob Board and current Head Coach Bob Adams. After graduation, Coach
Glenn enlisted in the Navy and served as a missile technician. After six years of service, he returned to
Minnesota to enrolled at the U of M. He graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and
a minor in coaching. He is currently working as a personal trainer for Minnesota Fit where he just completed a
book for weight trainers. He and his wife Muffy live in Robbinsdale with their dog Cuddy.
Mike Ryan – Assistant 9th grade Coach
This will be Mike’s third year coaching with the Cardinals. He is a 2005 graduate of Spring Lake Park where
he was a 2-time state qualifier at 112lbs. He is currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota finishing his
degree in civil engineering.
